John Firth-Smith is an established Australian artist and is represented in major collections here and internationally.
I have made many studies and paintings of John over the years. I wanted to catch the focussed intensity and nervousness of John standing and staring at his painting in progress.
Using more than one canvas has dual purposes. It is integral in the development of the painting process understanding the form while expressing different views and nuances of expressions. Also important is the sense of time and movement it achieves. The scale of work allows me to explore the head as a landscape.
